1970's Omega Geneve Automatic
Simple. Silver. Steel.
Omega needs no introduction. One of the greatest watch brands of all time with too many icons in their catalog to keep track of. The Speedmaster, the Seamaster, the Constellation, The DeVille; the brand is known for their many diverse lines of watches that all fill their own unique ninhes. Omega once ran an ad campaign in the 1940’s with the tag line “The Automatic Choice”. This ref. 166.0163 is inspired directly from the DNA that informed that advertisement. A watch so beautifully minimal, with everything you need and nothing you don’t, all in a case measuring 35mm.
This example features a clean and radiant silver sunburst dial, applied onyx filled indices, painted Omega logo at “12 O’clock” and a date at “3 O’Clock. All Original Lume free from cracking. The dial shows very little signs of age, with only light speckling in a few areas. The dial has developed a nice light warmth from over the decades as well. The case’s straight lugs are thick and even with clear facets maintained and the 672 Omega “sawtooth” link bracelet is period correct and complements this case well. It is believed to be original to the watch and in strong condition with a signed clasp. Original Omega signed crown.
The Omega caliber 1012 runs beautifully with crispy winding, setting and date changing. Keeping great time, this movement was Omega’s first family of calibers to beat at 28,800 VPH. The 1012 movement also allows for forward and backward setting of the date which is a huge pro for the era.
If you are looking for a GADA (go anywhere do anything) vintage timepiece, look no further than this.
