1950's Movado Celestograf Triple Calendar "Tropical" ref. 14939
A fantastic 1950s Movado Celestograf ref. 14939 in an unbelievably sharp 33.5mm Francois Borgel screwback case and shimmering hombre tropical dial and its large red presentation box, this particular example is probably the sharpest Borgel case I’ve ever seen and what with its tropical dial, this thing probably just sat in a window for decades unused.
This particular case design has several riffs and iterations, all featuring characteristic faceted lugs and three piece construction however this particular variation is the most seldom seen. It is slightly larger, has a larger bezel and more dramatically angled lugs as well as flatter, less broad, notched case back. The example we have here is truly unpolished and one of the sharpest cases I have ever come across on a wristwatch.
It’s dial, with radium lume in tact and matching, has aged to a beautiful dark creamy hue. All calendar functions as normal and while we do not have service history, this watch is running well and keeping accurate time.
