1940's Patek Philippe ref. 1486 "Early Waterproof" 18K YG
An incredible and rare Patek Philippe ref. 1486 in 18K yellow gold, with applied breguet numerals, one the Maisons first forays into the world of “waterproof” watches, with this square Francois Borgel/Taubert crafted three-piece case with hooded lugs, secured by sliding planks on either side of the mid-case, sporting an almost champagne dial and unpolished case with a remarkable rosy patina.
Aside from being in amazing condition, this historically important reference tells a story about the watch industry’s attempts at innovation. While this technology was not great, it remains a testament to engineering without comprising design.
